Trio Named as Finalists for Young Sports Star Honour

England footballer Michelle Agyemang, darts player Luke Littler and batswoman Davina Perrin have been named as finalists for the 2025 Young Athlete of the Year award.

These three athletes have been honoured for their exceptional achievements over the past 12 months.

Agyemang helped the Lionesses win Euro 2025, Littler won the world title for the maiden time, and Perrin surged to prominence with a historic innings.

Littler was the recipient in 2024 after his breakthrough year.

The finalists were revealed during a live broadcast on a national radio breakfast show.

The champion will be revealed live on the annual sports awards show on December 18th.

The event will be televised from 7 PM GMT.

Agyemang's Profile

Age: 19 Sport: Football

Only 90 days after her international debut, Agyemang played a dramatic and decisive role in England's run to European Championship victory.

She came off the bench to score vital last-gasp goals in both the last eight and last four matches.

These match-saving moments led to her being named Young Player of the Tournament.

Later in the year, she was awarded the Golden Girl award for the best young player in Europe.

She was also in contention for the Kopa Trophy for the world's best under-21 female player.

Agyemang, who has been on loan at Brighton from Arsenal, suffered an ACL injury in October.

"Being on the shortlist for this honour is incredible," said Agyemang. "Thank you to God and I'm grateful for the support I've received from my family, coaches, team-mates and fans."

Luke Littler

Age: 18 Sport: Darts

Littler kicked off the year in spectacular fashion as - aged 17 - he became the youngest darts world champion in history.

He secured a comprehensive triumph over Michael van Gerwen in the final.

His later win at the World Matchplay made him only the fifth player to complete the prestigious PDC Triple Crown.

His success continued - his victory at November's Grand Slam of Darts meant he ascended to world number one for the maiden occasion.

At 18, he is the earliest achiever to do so, breaking the previous record.

"Earning a spot on the shortlist for this award again is a big honour," stated Littler. "Last year's win was a highlight for me and I've had another unbelievable 12 months. I want to continue raising the profile of darts."

Davina Perrin

Age: 19 Sport: Cricket

Perrin is one of English cricket's brightest emerging stars and surged to prominence with an unbelievable and unprecedented innings in August.

Her sublime 42-ball century in The Hundred is the speediest century from an England batswoman in T20s.

It also stands as the equal third-quickest women's T20 century in a top-tier competition.

Perrin ended up as runner-up in the batting rankings and was named the young player of the year by the PCA.

"I'm deeply humbled to be shortlisted for the Young Sports Star award," expressed Perrin. "It means a great deal. I hope it motivates more young females to get into cricket."
