President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her family and they were âheartbrokenâ.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
The president explained heâs proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
âI said: âWhen youâre ready, because thatâs a tough thing, visit the White House. Weâre going to recognize Sarah,â Trump addressed reporters. âAnd similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.â
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of the presidentâs federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.
âSarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,â Hankins, the leader of Beckstromâs alma mater, informed the Associated Press. âShe was sweet, caring and always ready to help others.â
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting visas to owners of Afghan passports.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is âin a critical fightâ, the stateâs governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to visit Wolfeâs family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, per the state guard.
âShe had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had courage,â Morrisey told the audience at the service. âThough her life was cut short, she has left a mark thatâs going to be remembered always.â
