New Jersey's top prosecutor steps down after appeals court disqualifies her.

The ex-lawyer for the former president has stepped down as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a court battle that questioned her eligibility to serve.

Official Departure

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, accepted her stepping down on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it unworkable for her to effectively run her office.

"Let no one confuse following the order as giving up," she declared. "My fight will now extend throughout the nation."

Legal Background

Habba's exit follows closely on a judicial panel determined that she had been serving in violation of the law as US attorney. This ruling is likely to affect scores of legal proceedings in the state.

The judicial panel said that a temporary posting that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Ongoing Legal Battle

The Attorney General added that the former prosecutor will stay on at the DOJ as a high-level advisor. She will challenge the decision of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.

On a social media platform, she wrote that judges "should not be able to second-guess the appointment of attorneys responsible for executing the fundamental role of the presidency of criminal prosecution."

Performance in Office

Bondi commended Habba's record and noted that while she was in charge, the city of Newark saw a significant drop in crime. Additionally that the city of Camden recorded its first summer in half a century free from homicides.

Connection to Donald Trump

The 41-year-old attorney, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in recent years. She later acted for her client in his business records case in New York last year, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of falsifying business records.

Prior to her appointment to the role of US Attorney, the former president had revealed he was naming her as his presidential counsellor during his second administration, labeling the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a dedicated fighter for justice.
