Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

After a drab weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
