Israelis have assembled throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted offensive on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed state memorials until mid-October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was held across the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to examine the terms of the agreement.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the talks revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the talks are "tough and have still not achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that intermediaries are striving to reduce the disparities between the two sides.

Critical Points in Talks

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war administration of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member survived the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person come back not a single person will be secure."

"When we see all home returned, we can relax again. Then we can commence rebuild," she concluded.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Protester a participant remarked: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that about 70% of Israeli citizens prefer the war to conclude in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Situation

At the location of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to pay their respects.

From that location, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"As the night comes, the dread comes with it," displaced urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, explained.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my little child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be completed and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had taken in the bodies of several people by the daytime, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis said additional fatalities had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the south region, health workers stated.

Gaza's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
