American Armed Forces Executes Lethal Attack in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Strikes

This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amid Pressure

The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the military campaign may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
